There are really only 25 shopping days left until the "Big Guy" comes.
Does that make you start to freak out?
Are you stressed about how you are going to pay for all that "stuff"?
I can't help you this year with that. BUT I can help you for next year.
Today, go to your bank and set up a Dedicated Savings Account.
(some banks even let you do this online! You don't even have to get out of your PJ's if you don't want to!)
You get to pick the mature date, and you're going to tell them to mature it 1 year from today.
Have them debit from your account $50.00 per paycheck.
I know.
I know.
That seems like a ton of money-- but I promise you wont miss it. I bet you could find $50 per paycheck that you blow in fast food, movies, video rentals or even clothes.
By this time next year, you will have $1, 200 saved for Christmas. And you will have A LOT less stress! Seriously.
The date of Christmas never changes.
Like ever.
It's not an "emergency"(which is what you can justify Credit Cards for) —It is the same date, every single year! You shouldn’t have to charge Christmas.
You may think you can't afford to save for Christmas, but really, how can you not?
Go.
Do it now.
You will thank me a year from now!

6 hard boiled eggs
4 slices hot buttered toast (I like to chop my toast)
1 1/2 c. white sauce (below)
Chop egg whites into sauce and put on top of toast.
Mash and mix yolk to sprinkle on top of toast very last.
*WHITE SAUCE:
2 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. self rising flour
1 c. milk
Dash of pepper
Melt butter in pan on burner. Add flour and pepper; blend together. Add milk small amount at a time and stir. Cook until thick and smooth. Can use plain flour adding 1/4 teaspoon salt.
* I usually do 8 Tbsp. butter and 8 Tbsp. of flour and then add the milk in until it’s the right consistency.

Did you know that there are actually people who have to work on Thanksgiving? It's true. There are. Gas station attendants, hotel clerks, airline employees, Blockbuster employees, Police officers, Fire fighters, Doctors, nurses... the list goes on and on... Life keeps on going, even when there is a holiday.
Today, you are going to buy several packages of these chocolates.
Then, you and your family are going to identify who in your community will be working on Thanksgiving.
This is WAY more fun if it is someone that you don't know.
On Thanksgiving Day, you are going to go and deliver these chocolates and say
"Thank you for doing your job!"
Trust me on this one. Your family will love it!
*we delivered last year some chocolates to the blockbuster kid, the gas station attendant and the police officer sitting in a parking lot! We also do this for Christmas*

The Return of the Bucket Filler
Sunday, November 21, 2010
Last year I did a daily feature on my blog called Bucket Filler. It started on another blog several years ago, and each month it would get tossed around to different bloggers. I did it for one month, and was hooked! I loved coming up with new things for us to do to help fill our buckets and so I tossed it on to someone else, but kept on doing it on my home front.
I felt good when I was daily thinking of the one good thing I could do for others—or myself.
I felt good when I would sit down to write the Bucket Fillers for the month. My creativity would soar as I would search for the perfect quote or photo to go with what I was asking to be done that day.
I stopped doing it when I got several complaints from people saying they didn’t like the feature.
Boring. Fluffy. Silly. Those were some of the comments that I heard about my feature. So, I quit.
Dumb me for letting others rule what I decided to do on my blog. What I have since realized is that while I put the Bucket Fillers out in the Universe with the hopes that it will uplift others, what really happens is that these Bucket Fillers impact me. I have missed the connection to myself that the Bucket Filler creates, and so I am bringing it back—with a vengeance.
I will recycle some of my favorite Bucket Fillers from last year and then starting on January 1 you can be guaranteed to see a new, original Bucket Filler every day here in Crazyland.
What is a Bucket Filler?
A full bucket (or your emotional well-being) gives us a positive outlook and renewed energy. Every drop in that bucket makes us stronger and more optimistic. But an empty bucket destroys our outlook, saps our energy, and undermines our will. That's why every time someone dips from our bucket, it hurts us.
So we face a choice every moment of every day: We can fill another persons bucket, or we can dip from them. It's an important choice- one that profoundly influences our relationships, productivity, health and happiness.
I am offering you a simple way to fill your bucket. Small and simple acts to fill not only yours, but those around you as well.
Today, our challenge is to pray only in Gratitude. How many times do we pray for "stuff"? Meaning stuff we need, or stuff we want, or stuff we want to have happen? I would venture to say we all do it. A lot. Today, let us pray only in gratitude and not for things.

If God dwells inside us like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that’s what He’s getting. – Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy, SNL
I went to may favorite Mexican restaurant this week and when I walked in, the owner came running up all smiles and said “Motherboard! Where have you been?!” (in his very charming Mexican accent) Then he threw his arms around me and gave me a big hug. “I was worried about you! You haven’t been in here for a long time! I’m so glad to see you!”The man is a genius! Talk about creating loyal customers! If he fawns over all of them like he did me it’s no wonder his restaurant is so successful!
He walked me and the rest of my party to our table and then told the waiter “I know exactly what Motherboard here wants!” And, he ordered my meal for me. SPOT ON!
I LOVE that restaurant and I know it’s true.
*****
I’m in the process of potty training Moxie and to put it simply: It’s not going well.
She is flat out refusing to use the potty. She’ll tell me “I go potty Mama?” So we rush to the potty and she sits there, singing her songs, and nothing happens, and then she’ll want to get down.
After a couple of minutes of her sitting there, singing, I need to go potty.
It happens every single time.
Moxie singing on the potty, and me doing the potty dance because suddenly having my kid sit on the potty makes me have to go potty. Never mind if I just went 5 minutes early.
Just call me Pavlov ‘cause I’m totally conditioned.
*****
Speaking of Potty:
I have said for years that kids totally do a number on a woman’s body. They make things sag where they should be perky and where things should be flat they are pudgy. Then there’s the whole “Potty Issue”.
Those of you who have had children know exactly what I’m talking about.
When you were younger, you had all the control in the world—and could hold it through a fantastic comedy routine, sneezing fit AND coughing spell. However, the more children you (meaning I ) have the less control you (I) have.
Nothing makes the fact that children ruin your body more apparent than being sick and loosing control of your bladder. IN PUBLIC.
I have been sick over the past several days and found myself in Wal-Mart wandering around, trying to avoid the candy isle while stocking up on the jumbo bags of cough drops and Orange Juice. Suddenly I was possessed by a coughing fit and lost control.
I peed my pants right there in Wal-Mart and there was absolutely NOTHING I could do about it except to try and regain my composure from coughing and then turn around and walk out of the store.
Wet pants and all.
God Bless Children, everywhere.
*****
Thing 1 may have had a glimmer of a tear in her eye when she exclaimed how happy she was—that it was just how she loved it. Thanksgiving with everyone she loved. Thing 2 got a cheesy smile and said “This is my favorite time of year. Football. Mashed Potatoes & Gravy and my family.”
I think I just got teary writing about my awesome chitins and Turkey Dinners.
*****
Thing 2 messed up his knee pretty bad at school yesterday and no one could get a hold of me. Usually I have my cell phone glued to my hand. But, yesterday in my haste to get into my favorite restaurant, AGAIN, I left my phone in the car.
I happily enjoyed my Carne Asada while flirting with Moxie completely unaware that a tragedy was unraveling all around me.
When I got back into the car, there over 18 missed phone calls, 3 emails, and 3 text messages from people trying to find me to let me know that Thing 2 had been rushed to the ER.
I felt like the worst Mother on the whole face of the planet. Like EVER.
My sister was frantic and on her way to my house because she was convinced that I was passed out dead in my house and Moxie was screaming bloody murder and that’s why I didn’t answer the multiple ways people were trying to get a hold of me. When I finally got a hold of my sweet sister, she said “Oh my gosh! I am so glad you aren’t dead! I was so worried about you!”
She then showed up at my house right after I got home with a giant McDee’s Diet Coke and spent the afternoon with me.
I love my family. All of them.
Jefe’s side, too.
*****
Speaking of Jefe’s side: I am trying with all my might to convince his Mother that she needs to move to the town where I live. I know she would be so happy to have all her grandkids by her—and they could do her yard work and we could help take care of her.
Most people talk about how awful their Mother-in-law’s are, but not mine. She is so kind and non-judgmental. Whenever I leave having spent time with his family I feel so good about myself. They build each other up and it is a total joy to be together with them. I feel that way about his entire family.
Most people can’t stand their in-laws… but I love to be with mine. I wish they all lived on the same street as me so I could love on them and their kids every single day.

I went to Bloggy Boot Camp last weekend and realized several things:
1. I can, indeed, talk non-stop for 5 hours straight. Both down and back. (So, yes. That’s a total of TEN HOURS. sorry Veronica!)
2. I never run out of words. BECAUSE I TALK NON-STOP.
3. I am smart. (that was refreshing to learn)
4. Positive Self Talk (The Law of Attraction) really works and I have set some definite solid goals for the next year.
5. Blogging is less about words and more about the relationships you make.
6. I have met some of the most wonderful people blogging—and some of them I am proud to call my dearest friends. You all know who you are.
*****
I have decided that I am Old. My back is killing me more often than it’s not and I have to stop, at various times during the day, and do all sorts of back stretches.
Downward dog, Cat-Cow, the Half-wheel and the Happy Baby pose.
It’s the only way I can keep my back from killing. I walk around like the hunch-back of Notre Dame and it’s really embarrassing. And, it hurts. A lot.
I think I need to find a Yoga Class to go to on a regular basis. I mean, I’m already doing basic yoga multiple times a day, so why not?
Maybe I could shed those final stubborn pounds I’m trying to loose.

Jefe is heading off for a fishing weekend with his pals. Frankly? I love it when he does this. Not because I like him being gone, but because I like that he has hobbies and friends to share it with. Besides, when he comes he is happy. How can you argue with that?

Coughing Up A Lung
Wednesday, November 17, 2010
I'm sick and I hate to pull the kid card, but seriously? They make it impossible for a person to get better.
Mom's don't get sick days.
Meals still have to be made. Kids still have to be delivered hither and yon and poopy pants still have to be changed.
When your kids are sick, you make them lay in bed and sleep. Which, theoretically, is how a person gets better. But not for the Mom.
And, not that I'm complaining either.
Whatever.
I'm totally complaining.
I laid in bed last night coughing up a lung when Moxie came in, started rubbed my arm and said "You puking, mama? You need to calm down, mama." {rub my arm some more} "Just calm down, Mama. You be OK."
Which is comforting, but also slightly odd to have my two year old comforting me while I cough up a lung.
Thing 1 made dinner last night-- home made chicken noodle soup from allrecipes.com Thank you, Internet, for teaching my children how to cook.
So I guess what I'm saying is being sick, and a Mom at the exact same time totally blows, yo.
Literally.
How To Choose an Orthodontist
Monday, November 15, 2010
Did you know that Orthodontics can cost anywhere from $1,800 to over $6,500 without insurance?
It’s true.
I know this because I have two teenagers (and myself) that need braces.
I asked all my neighbors who they went to for their Orthodontic work, and was planning on just using the same, local Orthodontist. I’m a sheep like that. However, my husband had different ideas. He insisted that I research Utah Orthodontists, and see what everyone is charging and find out why there were such differences in cost.
Being the obedient wife that I am *cough cough* I did just that. Honestly, I didn’t think there would be that big of difference in price, treatment or even in offices and I planned on still using the neighborhood Orthodontist.
I called over thirteen different Orthodontists in my area and I interviewed them over the phone. Then I made appointments with six different ones and took my children to visit them and go through the initial consults.
I was surprised on the second consult to see that they were charging WAY more than my first consult.
My first consult quoted me $1,800 for Orthodontic work (after my deductible) and the second Ortho was charging me $5,900 AFTER my deductible. When I questioned the first Ortho (yes I totally called him back) he said he really wasn’t an Orthodontist—or board certified-- but a Dentist that did Orthodontic work. Also, he didn’t include in the price the cost of the initial X-rays or the price of the follow-up care (retainers etc).
And, he recycled his materials.
Gross.
I had no idea that you could recycle Orthodontic Materials. It’s good to be green, however, some things are not meant to be recycled and braces are one of those things.
I was really surprised, while doing my research, at how every single Orthodontist not only had different fees, but different treatment plans and a different feeling in their office. Some of them made me feel like I was a burden because I was asking so many questions and some felt it necessary to talk down to me. I quickly crossed those off my list.
During all of the research to find the perfect Orthodontist for my family, I came up with some criteria that the Orthodontists had to meet.
10 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING AN ORTHODONTIST:
1. Practice—How long has the Orthodontist been in practice? Has he moved a lot? The amount of time an Orthodontist (or any doctor for that matter) has been in one place speaks volumes to the type of practice they have.2. Schooling and Education—Where did he go to school? How long ago? He is board Certified and/or does he sit on any state boards or committees? What type of continuing Education does the Orthodontist participate in? Does he go to conferences to learn about new technology?
3. Money—What exactly do all the fee’s cover? Does it cover all the visits? The retainers? After care? Do they take insurance? Are there hidden fee’s? Do the fee’s cover all the x-rays and retainers? Will they give you a discount if you pay the entire balance up front (hello flex spending!)? Will they give you a discount if you have more than one child coming through their office?
4. Time Frame—This one is very important. What is the time frame that he expects to have you in braces? The technology is such now that the Orthodontist should be able to give you a good, solid time frame. I was surprised to see that treatment times varied from office to office—one said 2.5 years and another said 14months. Big Difference.
5. Referrals-- I asked for referrals from each office I interviewed over the phone. I wanted to see what people would say about the type of treatment they received from the Dr. AFTER it was all over. I also wanted to know what these patients didn’t like and then specifically what they loved about the Orthodontist.
6. Equipment—Are they up on the latest technology? What types of appliances and braces does the Orthodontist use? Specifically: IS IT RECYCLED MATERIALS? (because eww! Gross!)
7. Interaction—This one is deal maker or breaker for me. I want to know and see how the Orthodontist interacts with my children. I am the cash cow—my children are the ones that have to have the gadgets on their teeth. It is very important to me that the Orthodontist speaks WITH my children—not to my children THROUGH me.
8. Incentives—What kind of incentives did they use? Are there incentives for good grades? Being on time? Wearing their rubber bands? Did they have office contests? The ways the various offices got their office involved in the patients lives was important to me. Braces cost a lot of money, and you spend a lot of time with them… For me, having the experience for my children be pleasant was important. Good incentives means less fighting about wearing their rubber bands.
9. Technology—Not only was I interested in what kind of Orthodontic technology they were using, I was interested in the type of technology they used within their office. One office had all their new client forms online for me to fill out and then submit. I loved that. Another office was very antiquated and filled everything out with a number 2 pencil. And still another office would send me not only email appointment reminders, but text message reminders as well. LOVE! THAT!
10. Office Environment—How the staff and the Doctor interacted was important, but even more so, I watched how the staff treated me and my children. Again, braces cost a lot of money, so I felt like it was important that I never felt like a burden or that I was being talked down to.
Admittedly, I thought my husband was crazy for insisting that I research Orthodontists, the treatments available and the differences in cost; However, I am very glad that I did. I learned a lot about what is available, what to look for and what to avoid. I would strongly encourage you to not just go with whomever your neighbors have chosen, but to actually do some research. You may be surprised with what you find.

While we were there, they were at capacity, so if anyone needed a place to stay, they would have had to try and find them some where else to stay.

He really is a fantastic parent and they don’t even miss me one little bit.

It was the cutest thing I've ever seen.
Moxie, that is. NOT the snow.
I'm not ready for this nasty cold weather.
If I had my way it would snow only the week before Christmas and the week after. Then the snow would promptly melt and it would 65-82.7 degrees again.
Don't give me that "you have to have snow to appreciate spring". Cause really? I don't.

Utah Orthodontist Hosts Event for Local Bloggers
Saturday, November 06, 2010
Yesterday a group of *Utah Bloggers got together to network and learn more about the process of finding an Orthodontist and then braces in general. The event was hosted by Dr. John Pobanz of Pobanz Orthodontics with Elisa from MMB and Janet from Newspapergrl.com
Upon walking in the door, these local bloggers were already networking away—even landing business deals in the lobby! We listened to Dr. John’s staff as they walked us through the process of how braces work, why you should get braces and the various questions you should ask the orthodontists that you are interviewing.
ADVANTAGES OF POBANZ ORTHODONTICS
Dr. John is also on Twitter, Facebook and has an excellent blog where he shares tips and tricks for a beautiful smile!
Dr. John currently participates in several study groups—including the Damon Braces Study Club. Damon Braces is the new cutting edge technology in braces that decreases the amount of time you are actually in braces.
HOW TO STOP THUMB SUCKING
However, there is a new device out called The Bluegrass. It was invented by a Dentist who also happens to work with race horses. When race horses get out of control in the race gates, waiting for the race to begin, they put a bit in their mouth with two beads on it. The horse immediately calms down by spinning the beads on the bit with their tongues. The Dentist wondered if the same theory would apply to thumb-suckers.
He created this device called The Bluegrass which is an appliance put across the top of your mouth with two beads on it. The theory is that you are replacing one behavior with another—playing with their beads.
Dr. John stated that this device to stop thumb-sucking or finger-sucking is 99% effective.
How can you argue with that?
He told us several stories of individuals—some still in their twenty’s—who were still sucking their thumbs at night, but desperately wanting to quit. The Bluegrass effectively helped them quit—some the very same day.
SEO TIPS
Janet Thaeler from www.newspapergrl.com shared her vast knowledge on how to make your blog more searchable. I walked away from that presentation having personally learned a lot of new information that I am very excited to put into practice.Janet gave us several websites to use to track the most popular keyword searches and then how to use those keywords in our blog posts thus making it easier for Google (and readers) to find our posts. Check out www.freekeywords.wordtracker.com and www.google.com/insights/search – both sites are fantastic ways to see what key phrases are most searched so that you can then make your blog more searchable.
We ended the event with a fantastic lunch and Dr. John showing us various case studies he has been a part of with regards to braces and various technology. It was incredible to see the changes in people’s appearance in just 11 short months of visiting Dr. John’s office. He is aggressive in his treatment—and the outcomes are outstanding. Without hesitation, I think all in attendance would say that if you are looking for an Orthodontist in Utah, you should seriously consider Pobanz Orthodontics!
It was a fantastic time networking with local bloggers and learning more about the services available to us in our community.
