My poem

Saturday, February 28, 2009

The sun sets in a sea of magic,
Swirling colors and light kiss it away.

Such a glamorous loss seems almost tragic,
But all I can do is bask in the spray.

It reminds me of the times I spend with you,
Sunning myself in your glow.

But, just like the sun -- you'll fade away too,
And before I'm ready -- you always go.
1994

Random randomness and then some tunes

No man is exempt from saying silly things; the mischief is to say them deliberately. - Michel de Montaigne (1533 – 1592)

Well, the boom-chicka-bow-wow weekend was a smashing success. Not only that, but I remembered that not only is Jefe a fun guy, but yes indeed! I really DO like him. A lot. We ate the most excellent burger at a local hidden treasure; we ate some smashing pancakes at another local hidden treasure. We watched Slumdog Millionaire, which I must say is an absolutely amazing movie! I loved every minute of it! We shopped at my favorite used bookstore and walked around a quiet, sunny town. We looked at Jefe's other midlife crisis and drove around in his swanky new ride and just over all had a magnificent weekend. It was a much needed getaway.

*************************************************************

I've gotten some questions about how I come up with my "hilarious" stories. Are they real? Some of you have asked me. I wish I were so brilliant to come up with these stories by pulling them out of a hat… but sadly. I AM that dorky. All of my material is truth in writing. I do more stuff that is embarrassing than I want to admit. I have a GREAT one that I working on getting written down. Trust me. When I told Sher and Andrea last night, I think they may have peed just a wee little bit. I could be wrong. I'm just saying. It's THAT funny.

***********************************************************

Last night I went and heard Jeffery Zaslow speak on The Last Lecture. It was incredible. He has my dream job. Writing a column for an important newspaper AND public speaking engagements. I would love to do both. I listened in awe as he told stories of his career and then stories of writing this book with Randy Pausch. I only wish Mr. Zaslow would have shown less videos-- that we all had seen on the Internet-- and talked more about his life lessons. His writing lessons, and given more insight into Randy Pausch.

I saw Randy's Last Lecture on Oprah, and then Googled it and watched the whole thing on the Internet. When the one hour special with Diane Sawyer was on last year, I watched it, and was there the next day to purchase his book. It is an easy read—and just full of incredible words of wisdom. I found myself thinking a lot about what I would want my Last Lecture to be. I have started writing it in my drafts… and when it's done it'll show up here—for my children.

I told Jefe recently that I felt pretty good about my life and if I died, I felt like my blog would offer some insight into my life for our children. I have tried to present a pretty honest picture of what I am when I have written on my blog. What you see is what you get. When I die, this blog will be my voice speaking to my children… Crazy lady and all.

The Last Lecture, I think is a book that everyone should read. It is easy, and a good self check. We all need those self checks to make sure we are on the right track. I have some course correcting to do—but then that is a part of life. We are, not one of us, perfect. That is our journey here on earth. To learn how to be better, more forgiving and Christ-like. I'm working on it, but am a long way off.

*****************************************************************

Jefe took the kids to see Coraline recently and a conversation he had with Thing 2 cracks me up. They were talking about the movie, and how it was a scary. He asked the kids what was scary, and they were telling him when Thing 2 piped up… "It really isn't as scary as OUR world. OUR world is probably scarier." Jefe quizzed him as to why our world was scarier and Thing 2's response was "Well, Our world is scarier because of global warming and the "Ek-a-nom-a-nee" (economy). " I love how he says economy—Ek-a-nom-a-nee. He reiterated his concern over the "Ek-a-nom-a-nee" when President Obama gave his address on Wednesday.

Ek-a-nom-a-nee.That's a great word.

*******************************************************************

Speaking of Obama… I have purposely tried to not spout my political views on this blog. That is not what it is for. However, I heard something recently that I wanted to share.

I listen to talk radio. I spend a lot of that time banging my head against the wall, because the talk show hosts are so narcissistic it infuriates me. Seriously. But, its like a train wreck, and I just can't help myself. On one of the talk shows I listen to, the host made a comment that I have been thinking about. He said that he loved America and he viewed himself as its cheerleader. He also likened Obama to the Coach of this team, called America. Whether you like the coach or not does not matter . If you like the team—America—then you root for them. You root for the success of the team AND the Coach. The team and the coach go hand in hand. We have a coach—now we rally behind our coach and team and push for success. It really bothers me to read and see so many educated people bashing "The Coach of our Team." I love our team—America. I want America to succeed. So, I will rally behind my teams coach and be supportive. Nothing good ever comes from bashing. Not ever.

Moxie has started walking. Not a lot. But it's there. She takes a few steps here and there and then realizes what she did and promptly drops to her knees. When she took those first few steps, I felt my heart sink. Literally sink. I wanted to scream and cry-- It makes me sad. I want her to always be my baby. I don't want her to grow up, get ideas and her own opinions. I want her to stay little—where all I have to do to make her happy is meet her needs and play with her. It is exhausting having little kids. I know this. I have little kids AND big kids… teenagers more specifically. Being a mother to little kids is easy—tiring but easy.

Being a mother to teenagers is a lot like herding cats. It feels darn near impossible. I was absent the day that God handed out his "How to raise teenagers" manual… It's emotionally draining. I cannot make my teenagers happy. I can contribute to it, but ultimately, they are responsible for their happiness. That is what is infuriating. I see how amazing they are. I see the potential that is theirs for the taking… and yet they are so willing to accept the labels that others subscribe to them. Why? Other people do NOT have their best interests at heart like me, their mother does. So why do they willing accept these mean strangers labels and not MY label—which is the more accurate one-- of Amazing, beautiful, wonderful, talented, smart, spiritual, kind human beings? Why? I just don't get it.

So yeah.

Moxie is walking… and I think I felt my heart break… Just a tiny bit.

Me: You do? I didn't know that.

T3: Yeah. I do. I like to watch it with Moxie

Me: Barney's a good thing to watch. I guess.

Everyone knows your name...

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Today I had to go to the Junior High School to do various PTA things. I walked down the long hallways of my youth and had serious flashbacks. That locker over there was where my boyfriend had his locker. That bench right there was where I got my first kiss. This hall was where we used to hang during lunch and the gym was where I discovered the joy of dancing. Ahh… The joys of living in the town where you grew up. You are constantly faced with memories—some good and some not so much.

Here are some of the things that I love about living in the town of my youth.

  1. I love that my 6th grade teacher now works at the Local grocery store—where I met Jefe. He greets me warmly every time I come in to shop, and likes to point out to all the cashiers that he was my teacher only 5 years ago. Cracks my kids up.
  2. I love that I can walk into the Library, and the librarian not only knows my name, but the names of my children. When I walk through the door he greets me, by name, and asks how each of my children is doing—by name. He remembers that I lived in Chicago and likes to show me literature that is based back there. How awesome is that? To have a librarian that not only knows the kinds of books you like to read, but also keeps a look out for books your kids will like to read too? He's a keeper. That's for sure.
  3. I love that the town mechanic is someone I went to high school with. He is just a phone call away – and even gave us his cell phone! He is always willing to help Jefe with all his various Jeep needs. Or wants.
  4. I love that my OB lives next door to my Uncle. It seemed that he was more observant to me and my baby when he realized who my family was. Imagine my surprise when, during labor, he announced that not only was he my Uncles neighbor, but lucky me! We were cousins! That's actually NOT something you want to hear when your pushing and he's playing Johnny catcher.
  5. I love that all my Dad's brothers live within a mile of each other. And, that all their children are just as close. I went to school with ALL of my cousins. I always had a friend to play with because I had one in every grade. It was actually very comforting to me. I was such a shy child, and when I was feeling insecure, I would often go find my cousins and they would play with me and love me. No questions asked.
  6. I love that these same cousins and I get together twice a month for lunch. We say it is for our children to play together, but we all know that really it is our giant therapy session. I love that I have a history with these women… I know they love me for who I am—faults and all and I know that I am safe with them.
  7. I love that my children are going to the same schools that I went too as a child. Some of the schools have changed dramatically, but the pride of the school is still the same. The same jokes are still floating around through those halls… the same ones I heard 20 years ago.
  8. I love that my visiting teacher's mother was my Grandmother's visiting teacher. She likes to remind me of this often, and it is comforting to me. I also love that my visiting teacher's son and I have been friends since about the beginning of time. We have been in more plays together than not and her favorite thing to tell people when we are together is that her son murdered me once. And he did. Boy did he ever murder me. He was good!
  9. I love that one of the women I visit teach married my next door neighbor growing up. I have known her pretty much all my life. Her husband and his family are in almost all of my child hood memories. I love that she knows me and my children in a way that only close family neighbors can.
  10. I love that I can see all my old Bishops, YW leaders, teachers and mentors... everytime I go somewhere. The store, the gas station, the post office, the stoplight... I always pass someone who played a major part in my childhood. That is a constant reminder to me to always put my best foot forward.

Of course when you make a list like this, there has to be a downside, right?

  1. Everyone knows your name.
  2. Everyone knows your family.
  3. Everyone knows your parents and tells on you when they see you shopping on Sunday
  4. Everyone knows your extended family and has expectations for you and your children.
  5. Everyone knows your family and narks on you when you cuss and swear.
  6. Everyone knows you.
  7. Every.One.Knows.Your.Family.
  8. everyoneknowsyourfamily.
  9. Did I mention that everyone knows your family? Especially since you are related to half the town? They know you? Yeah. They do. They know you.
  10. Everyone knows you and your family.

And really? It's a good thing.

Random randomness and then some tunes

Friday, February 20, 2009

“I think there should be something in science called the "reindeer effect." I don't know what it would be, but I think it'd be good to hear someone say, "Gentlemen, what we have here is a terrifying example of the reindeer effect." - Jacky Handy, SNL

I have a confession to make. Its a little embarrassing, and shows my real age, but here goes. I sort of have a crush on Howard Jones... or HOJO as I lovingly refer to him. I went to every single concert he ever played when I was growing up... once even with my Dad. That's how bad I wanted to go. I have every single album of his... and know the words to all his songs. My kids start to have epileptic seizures when I turn my pal, HOJO on in our car. Thing 1 rolls her eyes and moans. Moans very loudly, I might add, about how I am ruining her hearing ability by making her listen to this crap.

GASP!

Crap? Are you kidding me? Howard Jones is like the quintessential definition of The 80's. He was a major part of my growing up... the Diet in my Coke, the Rock in my roll, the Mac in my Cheese. OK. Not really, but you get the idea.

Well. Imagine my surprise when one of my mission companions messages me on FB telling me that not only is she now officially cooler than me, but I was going to totally hate her because HOJO was her new friend.

Sweet balls of fire! Are you kidding me? Wuh?

It has been hard for me to refrain from not driving to her house and repeatedly punching her... but I am pleased to say I have refrained. I just did the ONLY reasonable thing... I emailed him and begged him to be MY FB friend.

Do you think that's desperate?

*****************************************************************

I lost 2 followers recently.
I had a funeral. I mourned.
(You think we won't notice, but we do. Oh. We do!)

I've moved on now. It's all good.

*************************************************************

Jefe came home with a shiny new car last night. His car has been dying a slow and painful death for the last couple of months, and we have been trying to bleed her dry. Yesterday, I guess Jefe was through trying resurrect her, and purchased some new wheels. When he told me, I was kind of perplexed. I know that I kept looking at him weird because he suddenly burst out: "You're Dad bought a sports car. At least I didn't buy a sports car!"

Ahh. I see. A mid-life crisis?! That's what this is?
Shoot.
I'll take this kind of mid-life crisis any day. ANY DAY, baby!

I have since been referring to his new car as the great "MLC of 09". He just smiles and says: "Sure. Whatev. It just deflects from the real one that's coming."
Uhh... Wuh?

As long as it has wheels and not legs I don't care.

************************************************************

If you have been reading me for any amount of time, you know how much I hate laundry. LOATHE it. If it would just fold itself and put itself away, life would be so much easier. But, it just keeps going and going and going... like that dumb bunny.
I hate that bunny.
I hate laundry.
Any questions?

**********************************************************

We're shipping our kidlets off to the Grandparents this weekend so that we can have a weekend alone. Just the two of us. Alone. It's been since I was pregnant with Moxie that we have been on a weekend alone. It's about damn time, don't you think?

I am not expecting much-- except a nice relaxing weekend with the two of us. A nice hotel room, a good book and some good food. It will be nice to be kid-less for a while. I have a sneaking suspicion that Jefe will miss the kids terribly and want to get them to join us on the last part of the weekend. Me on the other hand? Eh. They'll be fine. Can't we go away for like a month?

Boom-chicka-wow-wow!

******************************************************

Lost.
Does anyone watch this show besides me? I freakin' LOVE Lost! Love it! I just have a couple of questions about Wednesday's episode (Cause I watched it yesterday while the kids were gone-- and could FF through the commercials--bless that DVR)

Why the heck was Ben's face all beat to a pulp? What the heck happened? How did Hugo get on the plane? Why was Sayid chained up? I get that they had to "recreate" the original conditions... so was Sayid the "new Kate"?? Why did they take the time to show us the new characters? Did the other passengers land on the island too? AND What the heck is Jin doing in the Blue wagon in a Dharma uniform??

I need theories people. Good mind blowing theories. And, yes. I do read the Lost boards. I am a total Lost junkie-nerd. So?

Lets discuss, shall we?

************************************************************

In honor of my desperate, pathetic request to be HOJO's friend on FB, I uploaded some of his tunes to my play list... for your enjoyment. OK. Mostly mine, but whatev.

I'm dreaming... but not of this.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

When I woke up this morning I was dreaming about this:

And I really wanted to do this:

Instead, I got this:

And I got to do this:

Not the trade-off I was looking for.
It sort of sucks.
Big time.

Late night infomercials + Tibetan Monks = Pure Genius

Monday, February 16, 2009

I have found myself recently repeating over and over the same phrases. The same stupid phrases, every single day-- all day long, that make my eye twitch. I was mid sentence when I realized, Gad-zooks! I have found my way to make millions!

It involves a CD, late night infomercials and Tibetan Monks.

Apparently my voice is only audible to the dog. It's true. She comes running every time I open my mouth. But my kids? Eh. Not so much. So, I am going to hire Tibetan Monks to chant all of the annoying things that I have found myself saying... Over and over and over and over...

I'm going to take my Tibetan Monk CD and sell it on late night infomercials. You KNOW late night infomercials are the gateway to money heaven, right? It's true. Have you seen the stuff their peddling on those late night informercials? Seriously.

Every time my kids do something that causes me to chant My chant-- that only the dog can hear-- I will just pop in the soothing tones of my Tibetan Monks serenely chanting my answers.

Want to wear my boots again?
Let me see... that's track #12.

The baby is biting the dog again?
Track #2 should do the trick.

Your kids don't get to do what they want?
Track # 10 will calm them down.

Only $14.99 and you too can have the soothing sounds of Tibetan Monks chanting your daily answers. See how serene our Mother looks? No more spinning heads because you have repeated yourself 299 times in one day. Let our Tibetan Monks do that for you, while you enjoy a good book and cup of joe.

They chant in ways that are 0nly audible to children ages birth to 25. (If you have children over the age of 25 living at home, then please purchase Tibetan Monks II. )

I've got the poison, who's got The Remedy?

Thursday, February 12, 2009

When my sisters and I were little and sick, my mom would let us sleep in her bed. Everything just seemed to be instantly better when we could sleep in Mom's bed. She would promptly head off to the store to get the necessary ingredients to nurse us back to health. Doris Day movies were a must, along with rice pudding, wassail, sprite and toast. The electric blanket would go on high, the TV would blare, and there would be a never-ending supply of my Mom's sure-fire secret remedies.

We always had rice pudding when we were sick. Did you know it's the magical cure-all food? That and wassail? It is. I'm serious. Even today, at 38 years of age when I am sick, I make myself a pot of rice pudding and a batch of wassail and just the smell of it all cooking makes me feel... homey and safe.

But, you notice that now I have to make it all myself? Yeah, there is no one to go rent me my silly Doris Day movies, make my wassail and rice pudding and let me sleep in their bed. Of course Jefe would do all that for me if I asked him to, but I would still have to sleep in MY bed and My bed doesn't have magical healing powers like my Mom's bed does.

Every time my sisters and I would not feel well—whether it was a bad day at school, a break-up with a boy or we were legitimately sick—Mom's bed held the magical healing powers we needed. My Dad traveled a lot when we were all growing up, and so it made sharing my Mom's bed much easier. When he was home, he was very kind and more than once moved out to the couch when we were feeling really "needy".

Over here in Crazyland, we have had a bunch of sick-O's . No. Not that kind. Just the terribly hacky–hack-coughy- cough-Ka-chooey- kind of sick. However, I have noticed one thing. MY kids want to be in MY bed when they don't feel well. They want to watch TV in MY room, and lounge on my couch. They do not, however, want anything to do with the healing powers that are found in rice pudding and wassail. Bummer for them, cause dude! They are missing out!

What's the point to all of this, you may be asking yourself? Well, I'm sick. But life goes on. There are dishes to do, kids to cart, diapers to change, walls to paint and beds to make. There isn't time for me to lounge in bed all day, watching Doris Day movies, eating rice pudding and sipping wassail. And further, I would have to go get my own video and make my own remedies because I don't live with my Mom any more. (besides, if I did, that would just be plain sad!)

It would be nice if for just a day, everything would stop… so I could do that. I want my Mom's bed, her secret remedies and nothing but sleep looming before me.

I wonder… I wonder if my Dad would get irritated if I asked him to go sleep on the couch again.

Do we just accept this as the new norm?

Monday, February 09, 2009

Scribbit had a post up yesterday that really resonated with me and reminded me of a conversation I had with the girls at my church. Scribbit was wondering when it became acceptable to use "swears" and unacceptable to use the words stupid, retard, hate or other equivalent words. She has a survey up, and the results were a little surprising.

I have wondered the same thing, and further wondered when it became acceptable for girls to call each other "bitch, bi-atch, ho, or slut" all in the name of friendship. I am on the PTA board for the Junior High, and get to hang out at the school on a regular basis. I hear the way the girls refer to each other, and I find it very troubling.

In a YW lesson at church, we were talking about being nice to each other and I brought this up. I asked the girls about this trend that I had noticed and yes. They confirmed it. Indeed girls were calling each other these horrible names-- and it was all in the name of friends. Why? "Uhh. Because that's just what we do, Sister Motherboard. It's not mean, its just how we talk now."

I was flabbergasted. Why? Why would they not only call someone else these derogatory names, but allow others to call them those names? It's not cool. It's not "just how it is", it is wrong. I explained to them exactly what those words meant. I did not mince words-- I was pretty blunt. I think their eyes were the size of dinner plates and I heard a couple of girls whisper that they didn't know that those words meant that.

I asked them how they would feel if their brothers, fathers or guy friends called the girls those names. They were pretty emphatic that it would hurt their feelings and make them feel bad about themselves. Then I explained to them that when they call each other those names-- even if it was in fun-- it sent a really strong message to men/boys. The message, whether they realized it or not was "I think this about you. I feel this about you." And further, it's OK for men/boys to call them those names, and to treat them in disrespectful ways.

Those names that are being used in the name of friendship have definitions. Very real and very strong definitions... even if the girls definitions are different, it does not change the actual meaning of the words.

Did they view themselves as people who would sell themselves for sex? (No) Then why would they call each other those names? Because by doing that, it just gave permission for boys/men to do the same and to treat the girls in ugly, negative and disrespectful ways.

I really feel strongly about this. It is wrong, wrong, wrong! How we talk to others sends very strong messages as to how we will permit others to not only speak to us, but how we will allow them to treat us.

So, when did it become OK to be so disrespectful to not only each other, but to ourselves as well? It is not a sign of respect and it does not win you "cool points" when we call other people names or allow others to call us "bitch, bi-atch, ho or slut" or any other name for that matter.

Society has definitely had a shift. They have taken the words stupid, hate, moron or retard and made them the new "swears", and the real swears have become acceptable. Not only have they become acceptable but expected. In order to be cool, popular or accepted you have to not only use those words, but you should embrace them.

What do you think?

Soundtrack Sunday

Sunday, February 08, 2009

Soundtrack Sunday is best enjoyed while listening to the music

For an explanation of what Soundtrack Sunday is go HERE

Broadway music is my weakness. Oh how I love to hear good harmonies belted out across the airways. There is something about hearing accomplished singers belt tunes-- and me singing away in my kitchen or car--pretending that it's me on that stage that makes me happy. I do my own version of choreography (this will tell you just how nerdy I am), and I teach my made up versions to my kids. We dance and sing-- complete with Jazz hands and spirit fingers-- throughout our house. I think it is one my most favorite things we do.

I sing to my children. All the time, I am singing to my kids. I taught them their addresses and phone numbers to our silly made up songs--usually a Broadway type song. We would sing and dance around the house to our "address/phone number song" complete with actions. The song we used to teach Thing 2 had a great shake your bon-bon beat to it. And let me tell you, we did... We shook our bon-bon big time.

Each child has had their own "love song" of sorts that I have sung to them. I tried all sorts of songs with Thing 1-- every Broadway song that I could think of to sing to her. Do you know what she loved have sung to her? "We Thank Thee, Oh God, For a Prophet." Every single time Jefe and I would start singing that-- complete with harmony-- she would go to sleep. It would be safe to say that we know all of the verses to that hymn-- in all 4 parts.

Thing 2 was such an easy going baby. He didn't care what we sang-- just as long as we did sing. We came up with our own version of Polly Wolly Doodle All The Day that we would sing to him over and over-- and he would just squeal with delight.

Thing3's was A Bushel and A Peck from Guys and Dolls. My goodness! That song is so fun to sing to babies. It was the best way to make her squeal with delight! The younger kids even got into it with us-- we would all dance around and sing with her when she was a baby. She has even started singing it to Moxie. This, to me, means that this song makes her feel happy and secure.

Moxie's song is the song from Jersey Boys - Who Loves You? Oh my! This song is so much fun to sing to her. She starts bouncing up and down as soon as she hears those drums start. She loves music-- all kinds of music, but this song is the best "love song" for her. It fits her spunky personality. It's upbeat and happy-- which is her to a tee. It's an easy song to sing when she is sad, or happy or trying to go to sleep. The music will start, and she will produce the biggest toothless grin that could melt an iceberg. Just seeing that grin makes me be willing to do whatever I need to do, just so I can see it, over and over. She will sing along with me when I am singing it to her... and the dancing makes her squeal with glee. Of all my children, she has started at the youngest age with her singing. Maybe she will be my musical genius? (Crosses fingers) Let's hope so.

Random randomness and then some tunes

Friday, February 06, 2009

I hope that when I die, people say about me, 'Boy, that guy sure owed me a lot of money. - Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey(1949 - )

My random thoughts this past week have pretty much been like this: I need to paint. Crap! I need more paint. Double crap! Moxie crawled through the wet paint tray. Triple crap! How do I get the stupid paint out of the carpet? Oh! Brilliant idea! I'll use finger nail polish remover! Quadruple Crap! Now my house reeks of paint AND finger nail polish remover.
Crap!
Yeah.
Good times!

This past week I went to New Beginnings for the teenage girls at church. It was a nice night, complete with a darling girl singing an amazing song. We decided that we wished she could have just sung every one's talks... she has THOSE kind of pipes. Anyway, I noticed another trend in the way teenagers speak. They talk in total and complete run-on sentences. Have you noticed it when you have been listening to teenagers speak? Incredible. I think I may have witnessed the longest run on sentence ever in the history of the world-- listening to my cute girls talk.

I found myself taking deeper and deeper breaths every time they said and... and... and... And... AND... AND... And... and... and...and... It was kind of making me light headed.

So, have you, like, ever noticed that and thought what in the Sam hill are they doing and then decided you should count all the Ands, and then when you get to 25 in the first minute your brain starts to hurt and then you think about candy and then you remember you have some in your bag and you start looking for the candy and it makes a lot of noise and so you have to stop looking for the candy and your kind of bugged because they are still using AND and its really making your brain hurt AND they keep doing it and your at like 127 now AND so Yeah. Me too.

I just have a random question that I want to throw out there in to cyber-land. The state that I live in has a new law that is in place mandating that all schools have an electronic device policy listed on their websites by April 1. The policies are written on a school by school basis and the PTA boards can have their input... but the principals and faculty are really the ones writing the policies. There are, as most people with teenagers know, lots and lots of drama and problems with cellphones and texting in the schools... cheating, bullying, nasty photos, yada yada yada... What I want to know is this: What are your feelings on electronic devices at school (cell phones, ipods etc)? What would you like to see be the new policies at your child's school? If you don't want to leave a comment, then email me at crazylandblog AT gmail DOT com. I am really interested in what you think (especially since I sit on the PTA for not only the Elementary but Junior High as well).

My kids have started watching this weird cartoon from Canada. Thing 1 (she will die that I blogged this) spent one entire weekend watching all the episodes on youtube.com. It's called 6teen. Have you watched it? When they hear the theme music start playing, I am not kidding when I say they all come running from where ever they are in the house so that they can watch the show. It's funny to me, and quite charming to see all my kids lined up on the coffee table watching cartoons together.

Thing 1 spent the whole way home from school telling me about this episode of this show she loves and I was clueless as to what it was. At one point I said, "How do they get the parents to let their kids DO this stuff? Why? I don't get it." She looked at me and said "Mom. Seriously? It's a cartoon."
Oh. Riiiiggghht!

You all may tell me that I am going to hell for letting my kids watch this cartoon (really. don't bother, ummmmkay?) -- but remember I have all the seats by the A/C in hell reserved... so we're good.

So, that's it. My random randomness. Now, here's the tunes!

4. Daughters - John Mayer

Do you know how you can tell what kind of day you're going to have?

Well, when your baby finally falls asleep, you look at the clock and its 2 minutes before the alarm is set to go off for the day.

Yeah.

It's going to be a Grrrreeeeaaaattt! Day.

Smack me upside the head and call me crazy!

Monday, February 02, 2009

Over the last month, I have been tagged in about 27 different tags, and been given about that many awards. I however, have been slightly absent from the blogging world. I write my stuff-- post ahead, and then promptly get back to my painting. Or cleaning. Or laundry. Or Moxie.

If you tagged me, slap me upside the head and remind me to come copy the tag so I can "get 'er done!" I am needing some blog fodder-- and we all know that tags are perfect for this!

If you gave me an award-- slap me upside the head and tell me where to go (not to hell please) and I will collect my awards and get them posted on my award page.

So, the only tag that I remember being tagged for was the one on Facebook, where literally thousands of people tagged me. (OK not really. Only like 7) So, I finally succumbed to the Facebook pressure, and did the tag.

Now you get to read it! Lucky you, eh?

1. I'm afraid of the Dentist.
2. I want to go to Greece some day.
3. I am a self narker. (it totally sucks too!)
4. I want to own an apple orchard one day. Although I have no idea what I would do with an apple orchard... except eat the apples.
5. I was bit by a dog AND a goose on the same day while I was tracting on my mission.
6. I went on a mission for my church.
7. I'm afraid of Geese. (see #5)
8. I want to go to the worlds longest yard sale with Tracy.
9. I love road trips.
10. I love to laugh. When I need a good belly laugh, I call Tracy. She tells the best stories!
11. Before I die, I want to own a Karmann-Ghia.
12. I would like to go backpacking in Denali Park-- but that would entail getting in shape, so maybe I could just drive through it?
13. I've eaten rattle snake. It tastes like chicken.
14. I've eaten cow's brain. It does not taste like chicken.
15. I took the YW in my ward to fork the Bishops lawn. (I'm totally goin' to hell for that one)
16. I have all the seats by the A/C in Hell reserved. RSVP me if you want one. (see#15)
17. My cousin and I flew all by ourselves to Hong Kong when we were 19. She lost her passport in Korea. We cried. Then we found her passport. We were happy.
18. I've met Robert Redford. He's super hot in real life.
19. In college, Jefe and I had a next door neighbor that was a crack dealer.
20. I think bananas are the most disgusting thing on the planet. The smell of them makes me gag.
21. I want to buy property on the moon. You can do that, did you know? Just a mere $19.99 and you too can own an acre of moon land!
22. My Favorite movie is Pretty in Pink and O Brother Where Art thou?
23. I have an unhealthy fear of Darth Vader. I think it has something to do with the dumb Elementary school Halloween carnival... and getting stuck in the haunted house (that was down in the old Kindergarten basement) because I had to pass by Darth Vader... and he breathed at me. So I sat in the haunted house until my mom came and saved me. But, I could be wrong.
24. My kids all have a Bible name. I swore I would never be nerdy like that... and here I am... NERDY
25. I fell down a water fall. It was not on purpose.Nor was it fun.

Tags are great for when your brain just wont work!
Do you wanna play too? Well go right ahead. Be my guest. Just let me know, so I can read all about you and stalk you like the crazy I am!
