Month of Gratitude

Saturday, November 10, 2007

Today is the 10th day of my month of being Thankful. It has made a difference. I was skeptical, but it has made a difference on my attitude and outlook. I have found myself, during the day, looking for things to be thankful for... trying to see things differently, with new eyes. It is working.

I am grateful for my children today. I went to Home Depot this afternoon to get some nuts and bolts for Jefe. I pulled into my parking spot, and looked into the car parked in front of me, and saw something shocking. There was a baby in the car, with the windows rolled up, in a sweatshirt, crying and sweating. I was stunned. I watched the baby (who was probably about 12-14 months old) cry, try to gain its composure, hold its had over its eyes to block out the sun -- cause the car was facing west -- directly into the sun. I was fuming mad. I watched and watched and watched, but no parent came. I was getting more and more irate as the time passed. I waited for 15 minutes then called Jefe and asked him to talk me out of calling the police. He didn't. As I was talking with him, a Home Depot employee spotted the baby locked int he car. He looked at me, questioningly, and I nodded and said that he should probably go get his manager. I hung up with Jefe and called 911... just as the MOM showed up. Now, I guess her is where my sexist ideas come into play. I sort of expected it to be a Dad that had left the baby in the car. Not the Mom, and certainly not a Mom that had taken her older children into the store with her. Yup. You read right. She had left the baby in the car, and took her older children in with her. I told the 911 operator that it looked like the mother had finally showed up. He said "Oh. Thats nice, we still want the information so that we can go talk with her." So, I got out of the car, and started describing the car to the officer, while the Mother sat and listened. She looked a little shell shocked, and was hurrying to get her crap in the car and get out of there. (the manager showed up shortly after as well)
I gave them her license plate number and was surprised that I got so emotional. I was really emotional. I had been planning a great verbal tongue lashing speech... but, when I was so emotional, I decided to refrain. I didn't want to be yelling at an irresponsible mother and start crying. In hindsight, I wish I would've yelled at her. Seriously. Had the police showed up while she was still in shopping, her kids could have been taken for a mandatory 3 days. 3 days people! Is convenience worth having my children taken from me? No! I understand the whole nap thing... really I do. But for Pete's sake people, nothing is worth your children's lives. NOTHING!
I was livid for most of the day. I came straight home from the Home Depot, and had to love on my kids. I love my kids so much. I hope they know that.
So, today, I am grateful for my children.

Month of Gratitude

Friday, November 09, 2007

Today, I am grateful for my dumb boxer dog. She is a good companion and is really rather dumb. Seriously. I love her, but she is constantly under my feet. Following me from room to room... if I get up to go to the bathroom, then the dog gets up too, and waits outside the door for me. I am constantly tripping over her, and getting mad. But, in reality I should be flattered. The dog clearly has a crush on me... and is my biggest fan. Everyone needs a fan club, even if it is just a dog.
So, today, I am grateful for my dumb boxer dog!

Month of Gratitude

Thursday, November 08, 2007

I took my kids to a Primary Thanksgiving Dinner Activity tonight. The Primary presidency made a Thanksgiving meal for the entire primary and served it to them. On real plates. With real silverware, and real glasses. Can you say Lots of Work? I was, frankly shocked, and then VERY impressed! I mean, that is a ton of work for people to go to for children to have a meal AT CHURCH. A lot of work to try and teach the children about gratitude.
A LOT OF WORK People.
Some of the teachers didn't show up, so I was recruited to go and sit with the kids (and get to eat the food, which was a huge motivator for me. I hate that I have such an unhealthy relationship with food. Seriously. I am totally food motivated!) It was fun to hang with the children, and listen to what they are thankful for. After the meal was over, and we sent the kids on their way, I started looking around and saw the mounds and mounds of dishes these ladies had to do. I felt overwhelmed, and I wasn't even involved. I started cleaning off the tables, and Thing 3 was so excited to be able to help and take the silverware to the kitchen and the cups to the kitchen. I had Thing 2 help to take the chairs and put them away, and take the tables down. Thing 1 helped to serve the meal, and to clean the dishes off the tables. It was a good chance for them to offer some sort of service. AND, they did it happily! They were excited to help and were having fun!
I have decided that my children need to see me and Jefe not only serving ~ happily~ but they also need to be involved! It was a good thing for them to do. Jefe came and took them home, and here is the part that I am thankful for.
I stayed and helped these women do the dishes. Wash all 900 (not really) dishes, silverware, and glasses.
I know.
Gasp!
What was I thinking? I don't know. But, honestly, it was fun. I completely enjoyed myself. We all chatted and laughed and had a nice time. It reminded me of "the olden days" when we would have ward dinners at church and the youth would have to go into the kitchen to clean up after the meal. Washing dishes and water fights and talking. Everyone there was in Primary, so I was "one of these things is not like the other..." but not withstanding, I am glad that I did stay. It was cleansing. Really. I have found lately, that when I start feeling blue and like a total dork, if I will extend myself beyond myself, I eventually feel better! Which is something that I have known for years, but its such a scary thing sometimes to put yourself out there. Service is a soul cleansing thing.
So, tonight I am grateful that I was able to stay and help clean up after a party that was thrown for my children. I think I walked away with more than just clean dishes!
I am grateful for service.

Wordless Wednesday

Wednesday, November 07, 2007

I wanted to get a really good close-up of this truck, but I didn't want to go traipsing through the construction site next door to then have to try and figure out which workers truck it was to then have to ask permission to shoot a photo up close and all personal like.
Whew. Was that a total run on sentence or what??
Anyway. I dig this truck. I wish I would've been able to get a better shot than this...

DISCLAIMER!!

Wednesday, November 07, 2007

O.K. I got a a couple of emails asking if I REALLY used illegal substances. (refering to my previous post about the "good stuff")
Uhhh. NNNNNOOOOOOO!
I mean, come on people! I NEVER have used illegal drugs, nor do I plan on ever using illegal drugs. I was merely referring to the wonderful medical advancements that have been made to make our trips to the Doctors, Dentists, hospitals, delivering of babies, surgeries, ER visits, sicknesses etc. more pleasant... or at least 'doable'.
So, that is my disclaimer. I am not admitting to being a junkie or a crack-head. (although sometimes I wonder if I am on crack with the stuff that I agree to do... but not really. Really. No, not really, I'm kidding.... I digress again.)
All I am admitting to is being a person who is thankful for the medical/pharmaceutical advancements our society has made. Because of those advancements, I do not have to be tied to a table when I get a cavity filled. Hence being grateful for "the good stuff".

Month of Gratitude

Tuesday, November 06, 2007

Ok. I am totally going to let you see the naughty side of me now. The side that I try oh so very hard to hide from everyone... but it usually doesn't last. Me. Naughty. Totally.
I am soo thankful today for drugs. Really. Drugs. The good stuff. (not that I got to have any of the 'good stuff' today, but none the less, the good stuff) . How on earth did people survive without drugs? I mean seriously people. HOW?
Why am I thankful for drugs?( One time I hurt my back really bad, and I had to take "THE GOOD STUFF". I had to go meet with our Stake President to get a new calling, and he was really concerned about me having to have to sit for 2 hours straight during conference to get "voted" in, and then to have to sit some more while I waiting to be set apart... I laughed, waved my hand and said. Hey! No biggie! I have good drugs that I'm on! Jefe cringed and told me I HAD to stop saying that to everyone I met, cause I was starting to sound like a junkie. Really? Me? A junkie? Huh. Anyway.... I digress... )
Let me tell you why I am thankful for drugs. I hate the dentist! Really. I do. Any Dentist. I don't care how Hot you are or if you have just won the Nobel Peace Prize of Niceness... I just really have issues with Dentists! I am sure it stems from the scary dentist that my parents made me go to as a child that reminded me of some sleazy porn star (sorry folks, but its true!). I have Dentist issues, and I HAD TO GO VISIT ONE TODAY. O.K. There it is. The source of my naughtiness... That is why I am soo very thankful for drugs. Can you imagine having to get a cavity filled and NOT having any good drugs? Not only to make you not feel anything, but then to take afterwards when you get the feeling back in your face and realize they must have used a JACK HAMMER to give you the 1,900 shots they gave you. Seriously! Drugs people.
This is what I tell my friends who are anti-drugs: (especially during child birth, which is unfathomable to me, but whatever)
Drugs are good. Drugs are our friends. GOD made drugs for us to use, and we would not be using God's gift to us if we did not use them... ESPECIALLY when someone is going to be digging around in your mouth. Or you're having a baby. Whichever.
So, today, for my Month of Gratitude, I am thankful for drugs. The good stuff, like oh. I don't know. Maybe Tylenol. Yeah. Tylenol is good enough for me!

Month of Gratitude

Monday, November 05, 2007

Is it bad to be thankful for Daylight savings time again? Cause, I am! By 7:00pm tonight, my little kiddies were soo tired the little two wanted to go to bed. They were pooped. We had FHE, and then put the kids to bed. By 8:30 they were all fast asleep. Even Thing 1. She crashed. So, I am thankful, again for Daylight savings time.

I want to see this movie SOOO bad! Steve Carell is fast approaching my most favorite actor. For real. I know. He's not eye candy, or even really sexy. But that's just it. That's what IS sexy about him. He's just a normal guy, who is FREAKING funny. And that, my friends, IS sexy. Besides, THIS makes me laugh, and THIS and THIS and THIS! I mean, lets get real people... He is hilarious! Check him out and see if he doesn't make you laugh your little head off!! Then, watch The Office and go see Dan in Real Life!

Besides, the music from the soundtrack is oh. so. yummy.

Month of Gratitude

Sunday, November 04, 2007

Today, I am grateful for daylight savings time. Why would someone be grateful for THAT? Especially me, and all the ranting I have been doing with regards to it be later this year... and the meaning behind the delayed daylight savings time (read: congress has nothing better to do than screw with the dates of daylight savings time. No. Nothing better at all! Oh like maybe instituting universal health care, or stopping the crazy antics of our even crazier president. No. Nothing at all better to do! So, they screwed with daylight savings time! Yes. I am bitter about that!)
No. Really. I AM grateful to daylight savings time today. Simply because my lovely children slept in... and I mean they REALLY slept in. And, when they got up, they were happy.
It was nice to have a leisure morning. Every time I thought we were going to be late for church, I would look at the clock and realize that Whew! We had oodles and oodles of time. So today, I am grateful for our silly congress, and them changing daylight savings time to today. So far it has been a nice, peaceful day.

Gratitude Month

Saturday, November 03, 2007

My gratitude moment today is for my 3 healthy children... bad attitudes and all. We all got up at the crack of dawn and went over to the church and did yard work. They were NOT happy about having to go to the church at 8:00am, but in the end everyone left with a better outlook and attitude. Nothing like 38 degree weather to clear the head and make you feel better about EVERYTHING! Besides, Denny's helps too!

A month of Gratitude...

Thursday, November 01, 2007

I want to try a new thing. I have tried for years to do a month of gratitude, starting on November 1st; however, I always forget and don't remember until either the 15th or something, or I only remember until around the 15th.
SO, I am going to give it an honest effort this time around... Publishing it for the entire internet world to see. Maybe that will help me to be more cognizant? Who knows. Here are MY rules. You can make up your own rules, so don't bag on mine! I can be thankful for anything/anyone I want. Regardless of how silly or stupid it may seem. Its the gratitude that I'm after.
Anyway.
It's November first. Here is my first gratitude moment.

I am thankful for Ultrasounds... and being able to see cute little babies (even if Thing 1 thinks it has a giant head and looks weird). I am also thankful for being 75% sure what our baby is going to be!!

I was 12 when this video came out. I can remember staying up late to watch it, and being scared out of my wits! I slept in the basement, and there was this huge picture window I had to go past to get to my room. My sister and I would walk down the stairs stand there and get the courage up to run as fast as we possibly could all the way to the end of our hall to our rooms. All the time fearing that those scary yellow eyes from thriller would be staring at us through the window.
Thing 1 watched this video over and over and over until she had the dance memorized. Its hilarious to watch her do it. I have set this retarded goal to now learn it myself. Just so that the next time we have a youth activity, I can do the thriller dance. Nerdy? Yes. Do I care? No.
I seriously think this dance is freaking BRILLIANT! (O.K. I am totally letting you in on my dirty little secret... I DO like Michael Jackson. He is my guilty pleasure. He is a complete FREAK, but he is brilliant! So, shh! Don't let my skeleton out of the closet!)

I love Halloween! Its the truth. I know that its a pagan holiday and all that crap, but I really do love Halloween! But, I have 1 little tiny pet peeve with this holiday. Now, before I get on to my ranting with this holiday, let me preface it with this. I also love candy. Love it. Any kind of candy really. I'll eat it. For most of my life my diet subsisted on candy and diet coke. That is, until I had children and they RUINED MY METABOLISM, but hey. That's another post for another time.
Where was I? Oh yeah. Candy.
When I finally did have my children, (and they had ruined my metabolism) and we would go trick or treating, I would be the one begging them to "go just a little bit further" so that we could get more candy.
Which politely brings me back to my rant.
We, as parents, spend 364 days a year teaching our little children to not speak to strangers, and to further not, no I dare say, NEVER take candy from strangers. Yet on this 1 day of the year, it suddenly becomes O.K. and encouraged (by us psycho parents that LOVE candy) to not only take candy from strangers, but also to get as much candy as possible from said strangers.
I just think that is a little weird.
Ok.
Enough ranting. We are off to start the collection of candy from all the strangers around.
Enjoy!

Here is another million dollar question:
Why is it that my head has to start spinning, and I have to have steam coming out of my ears before my children will listen to me and do as I have asked? Yet, if their Father is here, and he asks/tells them to do something and 5 minutes later it is done.
Why is that?
And further, HOW do I get those super powers?
Can I buy them?

Want to hear my humiliating moment that I had today?
I wasn't sure if I should cry or laugh. I chose to laugh since there were 5 cars of people, including 2 police officers, that were in viewing distance of my mishap.
I had choir this morning. For those of you, in internet space land, that don't remember, I co-direct the Elementary school choir. Its a blast, and keeps me busy. I like to be busy. Anyway. The choir. We were done, and happily walking out to the car. Now. There are only 3 steps to walk down from the front door. 3 steps. Not steep steps mind you, just steps. Three easy steps.
Well.
Easy for anyone but me I guess. I stood at the top step, started walking down and then next thing I knew I was sprawled on the sidewalk. Face down on my knees like a complete moron. Thing 3 stood open mouth staring at me... I didn't dare to look to see if all these people were staring at me. (of course they were, they just wouldn't make eye contact with me) So I jumped up, did a "Ta-Da" and started laughing at myself. All the while wishing desperately I could just rub my knees that HURT. SO. BAD. I wanted to climb under a rock and DIE!
I climbed into my car, slinked behind the wheel and quickly drove off. Yes. A rather large Diet Coke was most definitely on the agenda now!
I honestly don't know what happened. Its like I just tipped over. Face first. I did this a lot when I was pregnant with Thing 2.
All I know is I feel like total. giant.dork.

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY...

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

I am starting a new thing. Every Wednesday will be wordless. Entirely. We will just try and capture the day with a photo. I took several today, and this was the one that captured the day best for me.
I want to start taking photos of different things, not normally thought of as things to photograph.
Those make for interesting photos to look at. One of my favorite blog haunts takes a photo every day of her dog and then other stuff too. She captures the most amazing things on film, and it has been wonderful to start looking at things around the world with a new set of eyes. Check her out, and see if it doesn't inspire you to start taking photos... and seeing the world with a new set of eyes.P.S. This would be from the crazy boxer dog stealing the pumpkins from the garden and using them to play fetch with herself. Is that normal? A dog that likes to play fetch with themselves?

I couldn't sleep last night. I was WIDE AWAKE. I hate it when that happens. Seriously. I watched 3 movies. Stranger than Fiction, Erin Brockovich and Bed of Roses. I haven't seen the last one since it first came out. I forgot how much I loved the soundtrack... 1 song in particular. It took quite the bit of investigation to figure out the name of it, and further to find it on the internet to listen to. But, I did it. Independent Love Song. Listen to it HERE, and enjoy!

These photos do not do this morning justice! I had to drive Thing 1 to school this morning and found myself if complete awe at how beautiful the morning was. The sun had yet to peak its head over the mountains ( yes. it WAS 8:00am and the sun had not come up yet...) but you could see the hint of ol' Mr. Sun. It was beautiful. I tried to capture it, and maybe if I HAD A BETTER CAMERA (hint hint nudge nudge-- say no more) I would have.
Anyway.
It's a beautiful morning.
Maybe the beauty of everything also has something to do with the AWESOME nights sleep I got last night. My friend bought me a massage, and sent me last night...
Now.
People.
A massage is something that I never in a million, zillion years would have thought I would do.
I mean really. YOU HAVE TO TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES, for Pete's sakes.
I'm a little shy when it comes to my body and its lack luster effect it has on people. So, when I first got there, I thought "Oh yeah! I don't have to take my clothes off!" Then the massage therapist turned to me and said: "O.K. Now you can get undressed and put your clothes over there."
Ummm.
Are you serious?
Can you please leave?
I was nervous, but as the music started playing and she started using all her scented oils on me. Well. People. I am ashamed to say that I became an addict right then and there. Good Grief. I was in heaven. I haven't been that relaxed in I don't know how many years. It was amazing! Thanks to my friend, I have now be baptized into the land of massages. It's all down hill from here... Really. I am just going to get out my tobaggon and enjoy that slippery slope ride all the way to the bottom!!
It was amazing. I am calculating when I can go again. Tomorrow maybe?
So.
Yeah.
I am in a tremendously good mood this morning. (which, I think if you ask Jefe, those have been few and far between).
Is it because of the beauty around me?
Is it the fantastic nights sleep?
Or is it my new found addiction?
I dunno.
You decide!

Jefe informed me that my blog is getting boring because I haven't been posting photos of The Things.
Here you go Jefe.
Enjoy.

Thing 3 has discovered the joy of pulling faces while her picture is being taken. So, everytime I take her photo she says, "Mom take a-nuder one so I can pull a funny face."
She is also SOO my child. She loves these cowboy boots. She wears them EVERYWHERE! I did the same thing when I was her age! Lets just hope she skips the whole 'I wanna be a truck driver when I grow up' phase. Can you imagine? Ick!

On a totally different subject...My sister, ima10cow, told me about this awesome new site...I am totally going to do this!! Check it out HERE, and tell me what you think!

Here is a question that I am seriously considering hiring the professionals to figure out for me.
I would shell out some serious bucks to get this one answered.
There could be 20 rolls of toilet paper sitting on the back of the toilet, and NO ONE will ever take the old roll off and put a new roll on. They will just open up roll after roll of T.P. until all 20 rolls have been partially used, and no roll will be on the toilet paper holder.
Why?
Why is this?
What is the aversion to putting the new roll of toilet paper on the toilet paper holder? I don't understand.
THATS WHAT IT IS FOR!
Seriously people. What is the deal with this??

How do you like the new duds?
I found this site that makes blogger templets, and lets you use them for free. The only catch is you have to be a family blog (which i guess technically I am) and you have to give her credit...
So, here you go. Thanks Matie Kay Creations! I LOVE the new look, and the availability of so many more to come!
Awww!
The freedom of being able to change, and having someone else do all the work! Now thats what I call awesome!
Let me know what you think!!

I found a new/old artist today... Marc Cohn.
I haven't heard him since his "Walking in Memphis" song from the early '90's. He has a new album out, Join the Parade. I heard him this morning on World Cafe on NPR and am LOVING him! He sang a few songs "Listening to Levon", "The Calling"and "Let Me Be Your Witness"... awesome! Simply awesome! Give him listen. It's mellow and nice. He has quite the story as to where he has been... I love NPR & pod casts... but that is another post for another time!
Enjoy!

"Maybe in order to understand mankind we have to look at that word itself. MANKIND. Basically, it's made up of two separate words "mank" and "ind." What do these words mean? It's a mystery and that's why so is mankind." – Jack Handey

"Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities. Truth isn't."
- Mark Twain

Random 10 Friday again. Lets review the rules of the game. Press play on your music listening device and then write down the first 10 songs that come up on random play. No fair skipping past whatever comes up... that's half the fun! Then post what you're listening to in the comments section. Now, for my friends who don't know how to leave comments... click on the patients link at the end of the post and that will take you to a screen to leave comments. You can register, get your own site and identity; you can choose 'other' and make up your identity right there on the spot or leave them "annoymous". Easy folks! So come on! Lets play! It's fun!
1. Forever Blue (Acoustic Version) - Chris Isaak
2. My Winding Wheel - Ryan Adams
3. My Worst Fear - Rascal Flatts
4. Bigger Than My Body - John Mayer
5. Amsterdam (Live) - Coldplay

I am feeling creative.
Big time creative!
This time of year always makes me feel creative. I'm not sure what exactly it is about fall that makes me feel like creating... cutting, pasting, molding. Creating. I am hurriedly cleaning my house so that I can start the creation process. I have all weekend, with nothing in store but rain and snow. We have started planning the process of hunkering down for the weekend with nothing but the fireplace (which here in our new house is soo LAME), the T.V. and kids playing. Doesn't that sound like heaven?
Yes.
I can't wait. I am organizing my photos. Madly going through my scrapbook magazines, marking the layouts that I like so that I can scrap lift them (cause everyone knows that is how "real" scrap bookers scrapbook... by lifting ideas from others!). I'm organizing all my supplies so that I know what I have, and can scrap with only what I have. I need to use up my ridiculous supply of stuff before I go investing in more.
I haven't been creative in quite awhile. It's sad really. I used to scrap every single Thursday at the old house... but not here. I'm not sure why. I think mostly I have felt un-inspired! But, I have realized that the inspiration I have been lacking has been here all along... I just wasn't looking.
Anyway.
I am in the mood BIG TIME to create.
I have this idea in my head of the page I want to create... I just need to find the perfect photo of Jefe... (he is groaning and rolling his eyes big time now..)
I will post it when its done.
It's awesome... cross my heart and hope to die!

The Mom Song

Thursday, October 04, 2007

This song is soo hilarious! You HAVE to click on the video and listen to it! This lady puts to music everything that we Mom's say every single day... day after day after day...
I am always saying that I want to hire Tibetan Monks to chant everything that I say over and over but it will be so subtle that it could be brainwashing!
I think if I did that, and then sold it, I could make a grundle of money.
Anyway.
If you have kids, you have most definitely said some of these things! Take a listen, and enjoy! Finally, someone who gets it!

I have found this new show that I LOVE to watch. Journeyman. Its awesome. Seriously! I think the thing I love about it is that there is some sort of resolution in each show. You don't really have to watch every single episode in sequential order to be able to understand what the heck is going on. I like that. It's sort of like Quantum Leap... only better.
WAY BETTER!
It's about this guy who can time travel. (on a side note I just read the book 'The Time Travelers Wife'. That book was what got me interested in this show... same concept. Good read.)
I really dig that kind of stuff, 'cause who doesn't want to time travel? I do. There are lots of things I would like a 'do over' on. If we're honest, we all do.
Anyway. Tivo this one... you won't be disappointed!

This is what I heard at dinner time tonight:
"I want salad, JUST salad."
"I want a meat, mustard, mayo sandwich, with lettuce."
"I want mashed potatoes and gravy only please."
Ummm.
When did my kitchen become a cafe??
I guess I should just change my name to Cindy..
Then at every meal I can say: "Hi. My name is Cindy, can I take your order?"

Here is the sad part of that whole conversation: They actually got what they ordered!!

544 posts.
That is how many times I have posted on this blog. I have had the blog for over 2 years now.
Two years... and 544 posts ... and 1,682 visitors.
This thing started out as something... I really don't know what. But, in the process of it all I have learned something. I learned that I LOVE to write and tell stories, and this process of writing and telling is cathartic. I learned that I LOVE to work on the computer. I knew nothing about operating a blog, or using the Internet really. I would sit down, for hours sometimes, at night after the kids were in bed and teach myself how to do this whole blog thing. I would surf other blogs and see what they had done. I had my "practice" blog that I would try things out on, then implement what I had taught myself on the "real" blog. It has been a total blast. It has been frustrating at times, but also at the same time exhilarating.
I still am not that good, but I am getting there. I think if I could really get into digital scrapbooking, then my blog would take on a whole new look. (check out my sisters blogs ima10cow and islandmom... now those are some eye candy blogs!)
I will get into digital scrapbooking... When I get a laptop that I can sit out with the family while I work. I really hate to be locked up in the dungeon of the office... away from everyone.
Anyway.
2 years people.
544 posts.
1,682 visitors.
Amazing. Simply amazing!

It may not look like it, but those splotches that you see in the photo are not spots on the lens. Its snow. (to really see the effect and the snow, you should click on the photos... its pretty cool!) It is full on snowing at my house today. Isn't that awesome!?!
It went from being 57 degrees this morning at 7:30am to 37 degrees at 1:00pm. Its COLD! Brrrr!
And, I love it! I made a huge ol' pot of soup first thing this morning, made some scones, and got some yummy hot chocolate! We went to Sams Club and they had my favorite hot chocolate in bulk... The Stevens Peppermint Hot Chocolate that has the polar bear on the package. Usually they only sale it in individual packages, but this year they have boxes of it that you can buy! Yeah!!! AND at Sams Club you get 24 packages for $8.88... on the company website for the same amount its $18.96! Now, thats a bargain! Jefe said he would stop and pick me up a couple boxes of it... and they also have in addition to the peppermint, cinnamon candy cane flavor! Gotta try that one!
So, yeah. It's snowing here! The mountains are supposed to get 8 inches today! AWESOME! I'm not ready for it to be completely winter yet... but just a taste is good enough!

We went to the annual Peach Days parade a couple of weekends ago up at Jefe's moms house... This float was the hit! All adults dressed up in Star Wars attire... you don't see it, but following the parade walking are a bunch of storm troopers pushing strollers. Yes. Strollers. I have now seen everything. It was hilarious! As I am wrestling with my own weird fear of Darth Vadar, I hear someone behind me saying: "Motherboard, I want one of those." I looked at him like he was on crack and said: "A Darth Vadar Costume??" Totally prepared for all the too numerous reasons why that one will NEVER happen... when he said "Nope. A storm trooper one."
So, Jefe says that he wants one of these ...
Huh.
Never in a million years would I have thought that!

Just a photo of Thing 1 and some of the girls from church. How lucky I am to have such a great kid, who has amazing influences like these older girls! They have really taken her under their wing and are helping direct her in positive ways! These are great kids! What a blessing they have been to Thing 1!! 2 years later I am able to say that this has definately been the best thing we could've done... pick our little family up and move them half way across the country... Every single one of them has blossomed in ways I never could have imagined! They love it here, and I have to say that I am too!
(See that Jefe? Better print it out and paste it up, 'cause I'll never admit again! ;p)

Mama, when can I play with my friend again?
Well, you can play with him on this day.
When is that, Mama?
On this day (showing her my fingers).
WHAT?
It's on this day (showing my fingers to her again).
No. Mama when I say WHAT like this: WHAAAAT? That doesn't mean tell me again, it means:
Are you kidding me?
Oh.
Ok.
When did you learn THAAAAT?

When you go in for a job interview, I think a good thing to ask is if they ever press charges.
– Jack Handey

It's fall. I LOVE Fall! Absolutely and completely Love fall! It is the best season/time of year! It makes me happy... the smells, the foods, the festivals. It also makes me homesick for Illinois and all the awesome fall festivals there were out there! I miss the pumpkin patch and the pumpkin donuts and apple cider.
Fall. ~sigh~
It is the greatest time of year. For me, its the time of year that I start de-junking and cleaning and getting ready to hunker down for the long winter.
Fall. ~sigh~
I love fall. It makes me sort of sentimental. More than usual anyway. I was married in the fall. My favorite photo of Jefe and I is one where we are standing underneath a tree where the leaves are changing, and we're laughing.
So, anyway. It's fall and I'm happy.
Have an awesome weekend folks, and crank the tunes!

Lord, forgive me when I whine, I have a family. The world is mine.

I have been de-junking the playroom today... I have thrown out 7 garbage bags of stuff. Jefe wondered if the kids still had toys, and what my criteria was for tossing...
Well, Yes. Just the minimum as far as what is left toy wise.
As for criteria... there is none.
Toss.
Keep.
Toss.
Toss.
Toss.
Toss.
Keep.
Pretty much that was criteria.
I have this list of rooms I want to de-junk. The laundry room closets are tomorrow. I have this huge need to get rid of junk. There really is no better feeling in the world than that of throwing crap away!
Seriously!
I love that feeling. Watching all my crap being carted away by the garbage man!
Freedom!
Anyway. I'm de-junking, and its awesome!

I finally downloaded the rest of the summer photos. Here is my cute 12 year old (GASP!) Thing 1 blowing out her candles. It's killing me that she is in 7Th grade... she is slipping through my fingers, and all I know about her is what she chooses to tell me.
sniff sniff.
This is our cheesy banner that we made for our High school Musical 2 party. The little container is pencil holder we made from paint containers. We just used glue sticks and scrapbook paper. The girls LOVED doing that! While we were being crafty, they had to listen to HSM2 and show each other all their crazy dance moves. It was actually quite fun!
I showed them my hot dance moves... they laughed at me.
I wonder why.
~grin~

Thing 1 on her first day of school. She looks so beautiful, it's like someone is stabbing me in the heart! I know. weird. I drove her to school and she was totally panic stricken. I dropped her off, and watched her walk into the school... then immediately started crying. No. Sobbing would be a better word. I cried all the way home. I was SO nervous for her. I remember my first day of Jr. High School... at this very school. It was scary. Thing 2 kept saying "Mom. Are you crying? Stop crying. You're embarrassing me!"
Oh well. So sue me. I cried when my kids went off to school. But, who wouldn't cry when you have a daughter as smart and beautiful as this one?

Thing 2 was just irritated that I wanted to drive him to school... that really cramped his style! He wanted to ride the bus and not have anything to do with all this sentimental crap. He really is his Fathers son. I don't mean that in a bad way either. He just wants to get on with life... sans huggy kissy stuff. He is such a handsome boy... and such a kind, nice one too! He will be a complete success in 3rd grade!

Thing 3 couldn't miss out on all the photo taking. I mean... she was born to pose for the camera... at least that's what she thinks! She really missed "my big kids" when they went back to school. She kept asking, like every 5 minutes, "Is it time for my big kids to come home yet?" It has been an adjustment for all of us, to say the least!
I think we should call her sporty spice.
Or maybe Feisty spice.
Yeah.
That one's better!

"If they ever come up with a swashbuckling School, I think one of the courses should be Laughing, Then Jumping Off Something."– Jack Handey '

Random 10 Friday....
AGAIN??
Sheesh. Where does all this time go? We have a sickie here today. Thing 3 is nursing quite the fever, which really sucks seeing how today is only the 2nd day of school for her and now she can't go. Bummer dude! I'm going to try and get her something to do here... praise Allah for the internet!
I finally downloaded a bunch of photos from this summer. It's only taken me a month to do it. You would think it was difficult or something... but no. I've just been busy busy busy!!
This photo is from one Sunday back in August, when at 1030am it was 95 degrees and Jefe decided that we would WILL fall here. We have pumpkins coming out our eyeballs in our sad little garden. We picked one, and kids carved it, and we put candles in and sat it on the fireplace mantel. Fall didn't come, but it was fun pretending for a while... all while the air conditioner was blowing! Have a fun weekend!!

For the last 4 years, this little hand has rested in mine. I anxiously waited nine months to see those little fingers, and feel them curl around mine. I prayed daily that she would arrive to us, healthy with no major issues. These little fingers have held my hand for the past 4 years... even in her sleep. I have held those little fingers as she learned to walk, and held even tighter when she discovered how to run. I held this hand as we walked through stores, and raced across parking lots. I held this hand as we walked in the park and learned how to skip. This little hand has been my constant companion for the last 4 years.

Today this little hand left mine to go to school. It was a big deal... An even bigger deal for me. After I dropped her off and made sure that she was happy, I cried all the way home. Not just any cry, but the dreaded ugly cry. This little hand was slipping away from mine... and all too soon I would find her slipping through my fingers, constantly "just out of my grasp" like Thing 1 and Thing 2 are. Now, all I will know of her time away from me is what she chooses to tell me. I have always known that this was coming... but I guess I had hoped it wouldn't. I wonder, does that make sense?

I hope that I have held this little hand enough. I hope that these little fingers know just how wonderful they are and how much they are loved. I hope they know that no matter what, my hand is always here for her. I will miss, so very much, having my little companion around. Holding those little fingers and seeing the world through her eyes has been one of the most meaningful things I have ever done.

"If you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you'll look like a dummy and people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy."

– Jack Handey

I pulled up one of my acoustic playlists this morning to listen to... I guess because I feel "mellow" what with my kids back in school. I am really not quite sure what to do with myself now that they are not here all day long.
I miss them.
Alot.
Thing 1 started Jr. High, and I have found myself watching the clock, seeing in my minds eye her going from class to class... praying that she is surviving. Not the school work, because that will be cake for her, but surviving the social pressure that is now thrust upon her. Ugh. I remember Jr. High school... I went to this Jr. High school. Some of the same teachers are still there. Poor kid. Thankfully she didn't get any of the ones that I hated.
Anyway. I watch the clock now. Hoping that her locker doesn't jam. That she doesn't drop her stuff. That no one steps on her. I don't know why I am so uneasy about this whole experience, but I am. I want her to be happy, and not afraid of school. I want her to be confident and successful! I am not stressed about Thing 2... Just Thing 1.
I had to go into the school today to pay for her lunch... we were leaving as the bell rang to change classes. Thing 3 wanted to wait and see Thing 1. She would NOT leave... and not wanting a scene, we waited and just watched. It was stressful for me, watching all those kids coming and going, clearly seeing the stress and on some faces sheer panic... one boy dropped all his stuff walking down the stairs, and his calculator went flying everywhere! He looked like he wanted to just disappear into the wall... he was mortified! Poor boy! I gasped. Probably too loudly. Kids kept walking by, laughing at him, until a really nice looking older boy stopped and helped him pick everything up. The boy who was picking up his stuff, looked up at this obviously upper-classman, horrified, waiting for the name calling to begin... This older boy just smiled and handed him all his stuff and went on his way.
Why can't all kids be nice like that?
Jr. High School.
Social pressure.
Yikes!
Anyway.
We waited.
Thing 1 finally came bouncing down the stairs with a boy walking her to class. He lives by us, and they have several classes together. He hollered out "Hey Sister Motherboard! I'm going to pre-algebra with Thing 1!" They happily waved at us and hurried on their way! Thing 3 looked at me, clearly happy and sighed rather loudly. "Whew! It's so great that Thing 1 is happy and the tears have dried!"
(yes. tears. she had a rough start this morning and broke into tears, which Jefe will be quick to point out makes me jump too quickly to try and solve their problems. They all know all they have to do is turn on the tears and I jump into action.)

Yes, baby. Whew. She is happy.

Key Bank Building Implosion

Monday, August 20, 2007

This is video that my sister, ima10cow took of a building being imploded. From what I can see, it was pretty cool! My Dad took some amazing photos, at least I think so. It looks as though, from his photos, that the entire city was covered in dust... sortof an apocolyptic feeling to it! It would've been awesome to be there and see it for myself, and see the streets covered in dust... oh well. Enjoy the video. They (ima10cow, her family and my dad) went and rented rooms downtown at the Marriott so that they could get a "birds eye view" of the excitement! Looks like it paid off!

I was going through the photos, and found this photo of Thing 2 when he had hives...
Aren't they just horrid?? Poor little guy! Jefe was getting him to pose and say "I want more brains here..." Ick! Just thought I would share, so that you could see that I wasn't exaggerating how awful they were... pretty darn bad, if you ask me!

Earlier this week I was talking with a neighbor about our kids. She was commenting on the fact that her son was really into skateboarding, and she didn't like it because of the kinds of kids that sport attracts. When I asked her what she meant, she said: "Well. You know. Long hair, drugs... you know... Kids who don't really amount to anything."
I was surprised.
But, not really.
Thing 2 likes skateboarding and I started worrying that maybe I should be more worried. Then I said to her: "Yeah. I know what you mean. Thing 2 has been dying to play football and I'm just really not sure I want him to. I mean everyone that I ever knew in high school that played football was just a giant meat head!" She looked at me and said 'Uh. My husband played football!"
Oh.
Well.
I guess everyone except him then...

Open mouth, insert foot.

High school musical premiers tonight! Thing 1 is having a premier party and she is soo excited! I told her if we were going to have a party here, then she needed to pitch in and help out with the cleaning of the house! Well. She did. And she was running around the house, all stressed like yelling at everyone to help out! Then when I went to the store to get food for the party, she called all crying because Thing 2 had just tracked dirt all over the kitchen floor that she had just moped. I started to laugh because I can't even begin to count how many times a day I feel like that! It was sweet justice to say the least!!
Anyway. We are anxiously awaiting the premier... We have a banner on our front porch that says "Go Wildcats!" I am sure then neighbors are scratching their heads thinking "Wildcats??" I thought our mascot was ________ (insert mascot here). "
Thing 1 is excited. Which makes me excited.
And my house is SUPER clean and I didn't have to do it all my self!!
Maybe we'll have to have another party next week!!

Thing 1 turned 12 today.
TWELVE.
Where on earth did all that time go? I feel like I am in a whirlwind. Seriously.
It seems like just yesterday we were holding hands, skipping off to Kindergarten, and Me crying all the way home. She has turned into a lovely... No. Beautiful young lady.
She is smart, and really has her head on solid. She went and met with our Bishop recently to get her advancement into the Young Womens youth group our church has. He pulled me aside a couple of days later and said "Your daughter is amazing! She has her act TOGETHER! It was wonderful to talk with her, because she really understands what it is all about!" He kept going on and on about what a remarkable girl she is. I smiled and said "I know. We have been truly blessed with this amazing child!"
And we have.
She is amazing! She gets more dramatic as the days go by and I seriously find myself shaking my head wondering if I am going to survive her drama... But she also gets more fun to talk with. She has opinions, and she isn't afraid of using them.
She knows BIG words, and shes not afraid of them.
She understands what makes a good friend, and she's not afraid to be one.
She knows who God is, and isn't embarrassed to have a relationship with Him.
She impresses me... She is miles and miles ahead of where I was when I was her age. The sky is the limit for her, and I hope she sees and understands her potential. It is limitless.
When she wants to be, she is soo kind and sweet with Thing 3. Thing 3 insisted on getting her Jewelry and a new Barbie for her birthday present. The Barbie she said was so that Thing 1 would have one to play Barbie's with her. How thoughtful! :P
Thing 1 turned 12 today. It makes me sad to think of it, actually. I only have 6 more years with her in my home... under my roof.... seeing her on a daily basis. In 6 more years she will be off to college.
SIX YEARS PEOPLE!
That thought makes my heart hurt. This child has been such a blessing in my life. She is the ultimate glue that keeps our family together and on track. She is our conscience. She wants us to be good. And not just good, but REALLY good. She corrects me when I screw up. And it really bugs me, 'cause I know she's right.
Twelve. I still can't believe it. She is starting to get her own agenda. Her own ideas. Her own beliefs. She is starting to stand on her own 2 feet. Granted, sometimes its a bit wobbly, but she is doing it. I am excited for her to stand alone, but also sad. Soon, all too soon, she wont need Jefe and I as much anymore... if at all really.
Sigh.
Twelve.
She has been reading all summer long. She's probably read 7-8 books. And not just books, but BIG books--- 600+ pages each. In 7th grade this year, she has to read 800 pages a term. I think that in the course of this summer, she has read enough for the entire year. I told her she needs to keep track of what it is she has read, what it was about and then she can pull from those books when her homework is out of control. Notice that I said WHEN and not IF. I know it will happen, and reading to her is more important than anything else... So I am trying to prevent a total disaster.
Happy birthday Thing 1. I am so grateful that you came to our house to live. You have been a huge blessing, and are so fun watch. You are growing and changing into a beautiful young lady.
I love you,
Mom
