Potato Chips
Have you purchased a bag of that sinful goodness lately? I love potato chips... all kinds, all flavors! I actually start getting a little panicky if I don't have tortilla chips + potato chips in the closet. I am kind of on a Salt & Vinegar - Kettle chips kick right now. But, the thing I've noticed is that the price of chips is going up, but the amount they put in the bag keeps getting smaller. I opened a bag today, and it was only half full (or was it half empty?) Grrr. Whats up with that??
Satire
OK. This has been punched around the blog-o-sphere a lot. So, I guess I am late to the party. But, I wondered what you thought. Have you seen THE blog? The one that everyone is talking about? Seriously, so blessed is the one that some people think is sheer genius and satire at its best and others are really upset with it. Have you seen it? I have seen about 7 blogs that have devoted entire posts to this blog. Some love it, some hate it, some are indifferent. I guess I would fall in the indifferent place.
At first reading, I as irritated, and felt like they were making fun of me! Then, after I realized that blog-land does not rotate around MY blog (however much I like to think it does) I realized that it was tongue in cheek humor-- satire, irony. I was curious as to why I was irritated... That is when I realized that this blog had hit upon something that is ironic, and actually quite funny.
I had blogged about various things that were being mocked. I did talk like she blogged (Jefe is constantly correcting me: "Gun-nu is not a word; Mount-uns is not a word; S'go is NOT a word... its deal not dill; steal not still... i know you can come up with more...).
Frankly, when I looked at it like that I thought it was brilliant. If I can't laugh at myself, then I need a reality check. Life is too short to get all upset because someone has decided to capitalize on the idiosyncrasies of being a Utah Mormon. It's tongue in cheek humor. I think if it bugs you that much, then hit the "next blog" button and be on your way. The thing that I found so weird was how heated the comments were getting... It's a blog for Pete's sake. Maybe examine WHY it evokes such emotion?! Its just a blog... A mock-u-blog-u-mentry!

Whining
If I have to hear the words :"Mom, I'm so bored!" one more time I think I may just have a giant freak-out right there on the floor. I will have to start waving my hands above my head like the crazy that I am and run from the room screaming. Because seriously. This is getting absurd. I heard it Tuesday, with giant tears in their eyes, after having been home for only 10 minutes. Ten minutes people. We had been out and about, swimming, playing, ice cream eating... buckets of entertainment thrown at them! If I hadn't been nursing Moxie, the freak-out just may have occurred sooner rather than later!
Teenagers
I like teenagers. Really I do. But, this morning, on my street, there were 2 trucks full of teenagers. That isn't what has me so irritated. Its the fact that these 2 trucks were drag racing down my street.
Yes.
DRAG RACING.
My street is a dead end on both ends people. How do you drag race on a street that dead ends without killing someone?
{{shaking head, muttering}} Drag racing. Are ya kidding me??
T.V.
Summer television is lame. Lame-O with a capital O (is that how that goes?). There is nothing decent on to watch. Not that I watch T.V. or anything. I'm just sayin', if I had wanted to watch T.V., there is nothing worthwhile on to watch(wink wink). Surely I am not the only person who is bored with television this summer.
Am I?

Random 10 Friday
I had some emails last week asking me how to play Random 10 Friday. What it was and all that jazz. I have been doing Random 10 Friday for almost 3 years now. I saw it on a blog and thought it was great... I found new music to listen to. There are a plethora of blogs out there that do this little diddy. If you happen to have a little widget for it, that would be swell if you would share!
The rules are this: You just put your music playing device on random-- or shuffle-- and write down the first 10 songs that come up... all random like. No fair skipping a song, unless its already come up. I promise not to mock you if you don't mock me! You can either post it in my comments, or on your blog. Its just a nice way to get other ideas of music out there.

I found out recently that my Random 10 Friday was being published in a list of all the various Meme's that are available to participate in. I'll be honest... I was thrilled! I have been blogging for 4+ years and this has been the one most consistent thing that I have blogged. Every single week. For 4+ years. Why? Because I live my life in a musical. Music has been an integral part of my life, and I punctuate those moments with music. Every kind of music there is. I am not partial to just one genre or artist. I like it all. Sometimes, even country.
What is my Random 10 Friday? For me, it's a chance to find new tunes to listen to. Whenever someone plays, and links, I immediately check out their list. If there are artists on there that I have never heard of, I go check them out on Rhapsody (my music playing/downloading choice). I have found lots of fun, new artists this way!
Let me give you the rules. In list form.
1. Put your music playing device on shuffle
2. Write down the first 10 songs that come up.
3. No cheating and taking off Kenny Rogers or Liza Minnelli because you're embarrassed.
4. Only hit skip if the same song comes up twice in the same post.
5. Write down your random thoughts-- in full sentences or not. We don't care.
6. Sign up via Mr. Linky (below my list of tunes).
7. Sit back and check out all the new tunes you will find.

Remember the post about the plants, dogs and chickens? Yeah. One of the chickens died. DIED. That's a first. Usually I just lose the animals. Never, in any of my tending escapades, has an animal died.
I have reached an all time low.

Remember how I told y'all that I had joined a Biggest Loser competition? (I have to admit that was my most favorite title I have come up with yet!) I was pretty stoked that first week, when I got myself up on the scale and had lost 3.4 lbs. That was simply amazing! The next week I was down another 1.3 lbs. Sweet! The next week I gained 1.6 lbs... but I blamed it on my "womanly times", or has Jefe likes to call it, my comma.
But, then I kept gaining. This week when I weighed myself, I almost threw the scale out the window. I've gained back everything I lost and then some! What the crap? What's up with that? Totally sucks, and it makes me hate skinny people. OK. Not really. Only a little.

Have your kids been driving you insane because "there's nothing to do? If you have to hear "Moooommmm! I'm so bored..." one more time you just might pull a Linda Blair? Yeah. Me too. My usual retort of "only boring people get bored" just isn't cutting it any more.
Sigh.
Summer break. What's a Mom to do?
I have found myself feeling irritated with people because they tell me I just need to plan some field trips. Yeah. That's easier said than done. Especially when you are catering to so many different age groups... I have a 14 year old, a 10 year old, a 6 year old and a 1 year old. It sometimes feels like I have to plan 3 separate events, just to meet everyone's needs.
I'll be honest, until I got an email from them asking me to write about it, I had never even heard of it. I must have been living under a rock. Hiding from my whining kids. But, after reading about it, and writing a piece on it for the MMB, I am thinking that I am heading there quicker than water erases chalk!
The event has opportunities for kids of all ages to get in on the action by creating their own chalk art creation in the Kids Korner. There are live performances, and opportunities to visit the KSL vendors. Shopping, and entertained kids. What more does a mom need?
A goody bag. That's what she needs. If you get there early, there are goody bags stuffed 'chalk' full of stuff that every mother needs.
It sounds like a complete blast, and it benefits a great cause. Besides, its free. What's not to like about that? Maybe we could all meet up and pose for "I have bored kids and all I got was this lousy headache" photos.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Punctuality is the virtue of the bored. - Evelyn Waugh
Do you watch ER? (not to be confused er which is what Jefe calls it... like the ending of a word, er... yeah. irritating) Anyway. I have to admit that I was quite skeptical of how they were going to pull this final season off. All the other shows, when they have ended, have sorted ended all dorky like. (Seinfeld, Alias) However, I have been pleasantly surprised with how they have brought all the old characters back-- tying up loose ends-- showing us how those characters have evolved and changed! That was brilliant.Seeing Ross and Hathaway last night was like seeing two old friends. And, my oh my. How quickly they slipped back into those familiar roles. I didn't even notice that it was the super-star George... They were just "that doctor that knocked up that nurse and they moved to Seattle with their twins" characters. Brilliant!
It has felt flawless to me (although the ala stork moment of the teen Mom dropping the newborn baby into the ER was a bit contrived). It has been like catching up with old friends as I have watched this season unfold. I started watching ER when it first started... back when Jefe and I first started. We had our beginnings at the same time and I feel sort of a kinship to this show. It was my comfort on long lonely nights when Jefe was in Law School. I watch very little television, however, this show has been the one constant that I have watched... for the last 15 years I have watched. I'm a little sad to see it end.

I wish you could have heard the shriek of horror when my kids logged on to my blog and saw the post about the outer wear I was going to purchase for my van. Oh my! It was hysterical! I got about no less than 7 messages on my cellphone about how they would die... DIE from embarrassment. Let me tell you, it made my day to witness them coming unglued!

I have been thinking about all the reasons why I am fat. Never mind the fact that I just had a baby. Thats an obvious excuse. Yes. I know that it is normal to gain weight (45 lbs??) when you have a little person inside you... sucking the marrow of life right out. However Moxie is 3 months old now. I think pregnancy weight should drop off you quicker than you gained it.
Anyway.
I'm fat.
And my reasons are: Food. If I didn't need food to keep me alive I think it would be easier to loose the weight. This whole needing to eat to stay alive is really putting a damper on my weight loss goals. Just thinking about food makes me gain weight.
See? I just gained 3 lbs from typing the word {whispering} food. (another 3 lbs) sigh. I like to eat and I like to eat GOOD food.
Can I have an amen?
Good food is my downfall. Well, that and chocolate, and french fries. And, soda of any kind or a Cherry Limeade from Sonic. Jeeze. Then there is Red Robin-Yum. And Cafe Rio Barbacoa Pork Salad.
See? 10 lbs right there.
Sigh.

But, on the subject of music, and concerts... When is too old to attend a concert? Is there an age when you just shouldn't? When should a person "adjust" their music tastes? Because, as it stands now, either I am weird, cause I like most of the popular stuff... or I'm cool cause I like all the popular stuff. I wonder which one it is?!Grammar.
I am the first to admit that my grammar may be... Well... lacking. Spelling is not my forte (god bless spell check!) and I love commas. However, I don't use commas right. I'm not dumb-- Just lazy. I have just about every grammar book ever written in my possession. I COULD go look up all the rules, and make sure my little posts are grammatically correct. I could even have my husband-- the former editor-- edit my posts (which, at times I think he is itching to do). Heck, my Father-in-law actually wrote some of the grammar books used in college settings. (gasp!)
But, being so grammatically correct all the time would mean I would be worried about what you think and, for me, it would take the fun out of blogging. I write for MY enjoyment-- and yours. But mostly mine. It's my form of therapy. So. If, I, Put, a, comma, where, it doesn't, belong... I apologize in advance. As of tomorrow, I will be the proud(?) owner of two--yes count them 2-- dogs. Jefe's baby brother, Soldier-boy, is moving out here to finish up his schooling. He has been in Georgia for years (when he wasn't in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or Kosovo), but his wife and he are coming here to live for the next couple of years. But, student housing doesn't like you to have animals-- let alone big animals. Yes. I know. We are SO nice. And So dumb. Anyway, tomorrow I will have 2 dogs. 2 very large, neurotic dogs. To say that I am nervous is a huge understatement.

I was talking with someone the other day, telling them that Coldplay was coming in concert. To say I want to attend this concert BAD would not be adequate. I love Coldplay! I am over the moon for Coldplay! If I weren't already married, I would marry Coldplay! Seriously. I think they are brilliant! I know. I'm too old to go to concerts, or like this kind of music, or be this freakishly in love with a band... but in my brain I am only 18. So, that makes it totally normal and OK! Right?!

Breakfast
Imagine my shock, when I asked my children what they wanted for breakfast, they actually responded. As if I were a waitress/short order cook. "Yes, Thank you. I'll have a pancake for breakfast, he'll have eggs and toast, and she wants a tuna sandwich and macaroni and cheese."
*screech*
*crickets chirping*
*a dog barking in the distance*
Did you say Macaroni & Cheese and Tuna fish??
For breakfast? That's just weird.
Seasons
Why does it seem that we have moved past having 4 seasons? Have you noticed that? Look around, its true. We only have 2 seasons now. Winter and Road-under-construction. Do you notice it now? Its true. Everywhere I go, there is a road under construction. It feels like the universe is out to get me. . . How can we triple the travel time of Motherboard and make her go stark raving mad?? Oh! I know! Construction!!

I know I posted about my "zen moment" earlier... but its just getting a little ridiculous now.
Teenager speak
When did "so, Yeah" become punctuation? I know that I have used it here. On occasion, and I hide my head in shame. But, really. When did the punctuation rules change? I never got that memo.
I like some of the phrases that they use. . . in an eye twitching sort of way. Have you heard them lately?
Wizard = Cool!
Fo shizzle dizzle = for sure! yeah that's great!
Just the other day I used the word Bling.
Bling bling. I will be honest. I actually had to look that one up when I started hearing that. Now, I just look flat out dumbfounded as I ask the teenagers-- "what in the SAM-HILL are you talking about? All I heard was: "aksdjfkajoijfljkjdkf boys ajsdkfjlajlskdjflj".
They always laugh "Oh Motherboard! Yer soo funny!"
I guess this is a sign that I am "fo sho" getting "C.T.D" or circling the drain.
Sigh.

Thing 3 danced in her very first ballet recital this past week. She was so excited she could hardly contain herself. She was flitting around here, practicing her dance all week long.
Her Ballet School only allows you to take photos during the staging event before the dress rehearsal. We were all excited to go up to the University to have our very first recital. During the dress rehearsals and performances, these lucky little girls get to dance to a live orchestra. It was incredible to watch!
I was excited to try out my new lens and see what kind of photos it would take.
This was the first one. Not bad, but really, not that great either.
I fiddled and fuddled and got this next one:
It was still off a bit. More adjusting.
Not good at all.
Then it was time for all the girls to go through their dances together,
and see how they would enter and exit the stage...
and I finally got the perfect setting.

I could not believe that I had missed this important moment! I was fretting to my sister in law, who came with me, about not having the dance photos, and now she was going to need therapy. SIL told me to lay off the crack, because if this was the only thing she needed therapy for, then we were lucky.
Everyone was packing around flowers after their big debut, and so we had some for Thing 3 as well. She was mildly impressed with the flowers, but completely over the moon with the big bag of Gummy Bears that accompanied the flowers. She's got her priorities straight, that little girl does!
I have to admit that I got a little weepy, as I watched my darling daughter dance around stage. She was enthralled with all the big girls, and scared out of her pants. But, as she started warming up, I could tell she was right at home on that stage!
What a blessing this child has been in my life!

Everyone has been doing some major complaining about the weather around here recently. It has rained almost every single day, the entire month of June. Every day, except my birthday! (thankyouverymuch and you'rewelcome!!)
I, however, have a confession to make. I totally dig the weather. It rains for a part of the day, and then is sunny for part of the day. What's not to like about that? It's not hot... the temperature is perfect! I would be happy as a clam if it would just maintain the status quo. I am loving it. (please refrain from throwing tomatoes!)

Sher is running Ragnar today. I have been leaving her voicemail messages, encouraging her to run like the wind. I was going to send her text's in the middle of the night too. Just to be obnoxious.
My sister and brother in law and cousin are also running. Jefe's law firm sponsored their team. I tried to get Jefe to run, but he was uniterested. I even told him that I think guys that run are hot... but Jefe just rolled his eyes at me and said "I think girls with nails are hot." So I rolled my eyes back at him.
Whatever.
If I could be guaranteed that I would only get the easy legs of the race, and could ride in the front seat of the van, then I would maybe consider running.
I know I am safe saying this, since Sher is running and not reading blogs right now. Go wish her and my sister good luck!

Remember, there could be photos of "I'm so bored and all I got was this freakin' headache" pictures. I'll be there, will you?
You could also attend the major designer denim benefit happening in the South Towne Mall parking lot this weekend too. They have designer jeans at unheard of prices-- some starting as low as $25.00! If you bring a couple of cans of food in, you can get $5.00 off those designer jeans!
